On My Bookshelf Now

This book. I could not put this book down. If I had no other responsibilities in this world I would've probably finished this book in two days, doing nothing but reading until two in the morning. Glitter and Glue by Kelly Corrigan is a book about a young college-aged girl who is traveling abroad in Australia and finds herself short on funds, rather than call home to mom for help she decides to start a nanny job for a widowed man with two children. But as she begins her journey into nanny-dom all she can find is her mother, everywhere, in every reprimand, in every messy table, in every unfinished assignment. Corrigan's writing is so effortless and easy to read, like talking to a best friend. The story is cute, sad, bittersweet, made me LOL a couple times. Definitely had me considering my own mothering impact on my sweet babies. A book about the bond between mother and child, you'll be sure to recommend this book to mother's everywhere, even your own. 

Another! book I could NOT put down! It was two awesomely, amazingly good book reads in a row - hardly ever happens, there is always an off one in between that I never finish or I know by chapter two this isn't going anywhere. Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist is the story of a woman who loves to eat. She goes deep into the shame of eating and her journey with food. Her writing is exquisite! So, so, so easy to read and the book actually put joy in my heart. She ends most chapters with a simple, delicious sounding recipe - many of which I'm for surely putting on the blog! She challenges you to open up your home, cook something simple - even if it comes from a box, and gather around the table. The table being a place of stories, sharing, friendship, sorrow, a place of safe. I absolutely adored Niequist's writing style and I have her other book on hold at the library now!

I'm not going to rave about this book. Still Missing by Chevy Stevens is a page turner, kinda murder mystery style, but kinda, totally grimy and yucky. Gives me the skeevies trying to remember the story to tell you about it. A woman gets kidnapped and a man keeps her locked up and does yucky stuff to her. That's all I'll say. Totally gross. However! This book helped get me through my husband's five day stay at the hospital, my mind was in this book, not on the beeping, nurses in and out, moaning, stinky smelling hospital, which I'm glad for. This book...eh. If you happen to come across this book, maybe pick it up, but don't go out of your way to order from Amazon!
